GE Capital has seen an impressive 28% drop in accidents across its 220 vehicle fleet since implementing Safe Solutions in 2008, proving that GE's risk management programme of driver assessment and training really can reduce accidents and cut fleet costs.
With an average accident cost (inc hidden costs) of £2900*, a 28% reduction in accidents amounts to a saving of £83,000 across the 220-strong fleet!
We know that Safe Solutions has a positive effect on accident rates, but to understand the real impact of driver training, the same accident data was analysed according to whether or not the driver had received 'on road' driver training in the 2 year period before the accident, and filtered on only 'preventable, at fault' accidents (e.g. hitting the rear of a third party vehicle).
The benefits of driver training are clear: untrained drivers are almost twice as likely to have an 'at fault' accident than trained drivers.
